EDIT: SORTED NOW

Looking for somebody to help design and build a photography website. My time frame is relaxed as it doesn't need to be up and running for 1-2 months, but I'd like to get it right first time so that I can advertise with confidence.

I've been looking at other sites and have some ideas of what will work for me and what won't, but I'm also very much open to advice on this front.

Ideally looking for someone who can put some effort into this for a modest sum - perhaps a member who'd like to add a project to their portfolio? If the results are good, I'll gladly give prominent recognition on the site and refer others, etc.

Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions.

Is it just the design you want or a complete system?
If you just want to use an open source CMS or a gallery system, then the job they'd have to do would be very different from building something from the ground up.

Tbh, I can't answer that question competently as I don't know enough about web design. There are a number of different features I want on the site, including secure checkout cart and password protected galleries. The templates available on photium and the like seem to offer most of what I require, but not not the look.

Thanks Richard. I'm looking through your site now and might give you a call tomorrow to discuss options. We might be in different places in terms of what it might cost, but it won't do any harm to find out :)

If Richard can't sort you out have you had a look at Photoshelter?

Photoshelter is pretty expensive compared to, for example, SmugMug - Is it worth the difference? Both US based, so there is the issue of whether clients will pat for purchases from there, extra costs etc. And SM seems a bit easier, not requiring people to register to purchase etc. Although PS seems more geared towards stock image sales from what I can see...

EDIT: haha, and then I found this http://www.pdnonline.com/pdn/conten...vertising/e3iaf02e0820238924b3224d04043cf56c5 :bonk:

The 2 main things I like are the archiving of RAW files and generating the lower res files from then for the digital file purchases. You can choose to handle print sales yourself, rather than using their chosen print shop in the US.

both sound good - from what I've seen so far, I'm interested. Would love to look at your site if you are using them Craikeybaby

I'm just testing one of their free accounts at the moment, before I spend the money, they've got loads of examples on their site though.

Ok - do you have a promo code for discount if/when you sign up? I saw the box for promo codes, so presume they are available with a bit of searching...

EDIT: One thing worries me though - their storage prices are extortionate if you need to add any out of plan, and the plans are pricey enough as is - the standard package offers only 35GB storage. I can see that running out pretty fast with RAW files.

I've not seen any discount codes, but if I do I will post it here.

Thanks, but after looking at all the options, I plumped for zenfolio. It has everything I need for the time-being including integrated checkout and orders from photobox. Minimises the hassle for me while I slowly get my own website together. In case you or anyone else takes up the option too, my SZ5-ZGC-Z8Z referral code gets $5 off for both of us. Not interested in profiting from this, so if anyone wants to make use of it we can make donations of the savings to talkphotography :)

Thanks for that, Zenfolio also looks like an option, I'll have a play with the free trials on both and see what I get on best with.

Nps - the price difference really swung it for me. Zenfolio is a lot cheaper. Enjoy your trials

That's what I'm using at the moment and I want something pretty much out of the box and with all the added e commerce stuff already set up.

how about photium intergrated shopping cart and great aftersales support i'm not sure if this is the type of thing you are after i pay £7 a month for mine

Thanks - yes, I'm on a free trial at the minute but feel that zenfolio is better as a 'holding' site while my own is delevoped, the main advantage being the ability for customers to order directly through them without me having to get involved. Convincing people to purchase through Paypal is also a problem imo...

Hi from a newbie
Another vote for photium for me. After a good bit of tweaking I now have my site customised to how I want it. Support from customer services has always been fab. Good luck for whatever you decide.

I've not seen any discount codes, but if I do I will post it here.

Photoshelter have a discount code on the bottom of their Google Analytics PDF tutorial, 10GB (iirc) extra storage free, valid until the end of this month. The tutorial is well worth a ready anyway if you have a photography website.

For those interested, they are now doing a 30 day free trial (the day after I set it up :bang: ) the site is dead easy to set up, mine is at http://pa.photoshelter.com/c/lewiscraik (I just need to sort the domain out).
