hi Folks,
Im looking for some inspiration with regards wide angle lenses. It will be used specifically for landscape images.

Currently use the Canon 17-40 f4 L on my Canon 5D MK3 and would like to purchase something a little wider.
Maybe somewhere between 10 and 15mm.

What do you guys use? What can you recommend?
Im not in a position to spend 4 figures on a Canon version at the moment and see a lot of people seem to be using Sanyang and other such lenses, so i thought id ask on here and see what comes up. :)

I had the Samyang 8mm but on a Pentax K5 so it was around 12-13mm mark, a very cost effective lens and would recommend it. Image below shot with it.

:plusone: For the 12-24 Sigma. As Gary's just said, the widest available for FF Canon without going all curvy/fishy. If you want wider and don't mind the added curves of a fisheye, there's another Sigma - their 8mm which is AF and allows aperture control from the body. (TBH, AF isn't too important on the fisheye since DoF is mahoosive but it's nice not to have to faff with aperture rings)

...or buy a used cropped Canon and a Canon 10-22! I still love that lens.

Edit - I see you have a 7d? Just the 10-22 then!

Samyang 14mm is decent and LR profile (available as a download) makes it pretty good. They are much sharper than 17-40mm presuming the focus ring is marked properly :) The only hate is 6-bladed aperture and pretty boring sunstars. Still, I couldn't imagine spending 6x more for Canon version. Nikon 14-24mm with adapter might be something else to consider

There are also some very large square filter systems on ebay now. Or you can do exposure blending.

I agree.
Tokins 11-16 f2.8 is a great wide angle for a crop sensor. But if you want really wide 8mm Samyang .See Ken Rockwell review for he has some pics to show how it does not distort at the edges like other wide angles.

will the samyangs work on the following? EOS 100/33 and EOS 40D and 10D? i would like something as wide as 20mm on 35mm/full frame on my 2 cropped bodies.

I think Stewart wants to shoot with his FF 5D3 no?
Indeed. My point was there are very few FF compatible UWAs as good as the 10-22, but of course that's crop only.

I'm having the same dilemma with the 6d.

Hi Guys,
Thanks for the valuable feedback, and to clarify yes, I want it for my 5D3 so needs to be wider than 17mm on full frame.
Will begin googling these recomendations.

If you can find one ghet a Sigma 15-30. Better IQ than the 12-24 and only a little bit narrower. Second hand only these days, so you'll have to hunt around, but they are easily as sharp as any L series lens.
