Looking for info on external soundcards

A few weeks back I managed to spill a glass of red wine over the keyboard of my Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop, but immediately turned it upside down to let the wine drain out. :bang: The result was that it still worked, but there was no sound and I guessed that was because the speaker is along the top near the hinge. I've now had the opportunity to try it with an external speaker, but it still isn't working, particularly that the volume slider just slides back down to zero.

I'm now wondering if it is possible to get an external USB soundcard that would bypass the internal one and allow me to connect an external speaker, or does it sound like some damage to the circuit board is going to leave me in permanent silence? I'd appreciate your thoughts and suggestions. :thinking:

I mean, I wouldn't like to say what the build quality is like at that price, but you can get one for under £3! :)

Many thanks for the reply. I'd had this device pointed out to me on eBay for the total of £1.60 inc 1st class post and sent off for it on Monday evening. It duly arrived today and I can confirm that it works! Don't know how long it will work, mind, but it has confirmed that sound is still available from the motherboard! :thumbs:
