looking for opinions Nikon 300mm / Sigma 150-600 C

I'm looking to upgrade from my Sigma 150-500 that has served me well this past few years.

Mainly doing wildlife photography, and a little motorsport ( bike racing)

With a fairly limited budget , I am deliberating over either the Nikon 300mm f4 which would serve me for the bike racing ( I'm the track photographer for Darley Moor, so 300mm is more than enough, as often use my 70-200 as I'm that close)
and adding a TC for the wildlife photography. On the other side of the coin is the new Sigma 150-600 C . Yes I'll have the range for the wildlife, but will it focus and track as quick as the 300 f4 for the bikes ?

Informed opinions would be greatly appreciated

The 150-600 will be great for wildlife but I'm not so sure about bike racing, I've never shot bikes mind but it strikes me they will be fast action shots and I'm not sure the 150-600 f5.6-6.3 will match the renown 300 f4 in that field.
On the other hand the 300 f4 is great on its own or with a TC 1.4 but IMO suffers more with a 1.7 or 2.0 and I doubt you will be happy with the results ... 420mm will be okay for wildlife but you will probably always want more ... decisions, decisions :D
 
Thanks for your input. I'm edging towards the 150-600. From what I have read, the IQ and focusing speed will be better than the Sigma 150-500 that has served me well with motorsport and wildlife this past 5 years. Granted I imagine I would get a higher percentage of keepers with the 300 f4 on the bike racing
 
I'm in a similar position. I sold my 300mm f4 recently due to being too heavy for arm problems and I am waiting to see how the Sigma C is and the Tamron version. But........... I have this niggle in my mind that the zooms aren't going to be good for fine feather detail as the prime was and fast focussing. The 300mm was instant when on my old D7100 body, got a D750 now. Also, this was through the winter months as well.

So I am now thinking abot getting the prime again for tripod/monopd use and a Tamron 70-300mm VC for handholding.

In your shoes I would get the prime for £699 from HDEW and keep the 150-500 for the longer needs. And add a TC if needed.

In actual fact , I use a D7100 . So I've decided to go for a 300 f4, and use in conjunction with a t/c when needed .
