just been quoted £253 to replace mr reader assembly on my nikon 70-200 also clean and test

anyone know what a mr reader is ?? and does this seem a fair price ??

There's reference to an 'MR encoder' in a repair manual, but I don't know what it is! Could be something to do with the VR system?

I had some fungus cleared out of my 70-200 F2.8 VR 2 or 3 years ago and that cost around £140.

Bit late to this thread but I've just returned a lens to Sigma that needs a new image stabiliser, rear barrel, AF motor and MR sensor. £207 that'll cost me,

From what I've found on Google, it would appear MR stands for Magnetoresistive. Not a clue what it means or does. Did find this Australian repair website that shows an image of one half-way down the page -

I have to take their word for it that it needs replacing.
