Hi all,

I've currently got a 'watch' on ebay on an older Sigma 28-70 (not the newer 24) f2.8 EX Aspherical (not the DF). This design dates back a bit, so I was wanting to hear a) any experiences of IQ and b) is it still going to function with my 450D OK, being as it's newer.

Thanks for any tips, try as I might I'm not gonna get funds for the Canon 24-70L for some time and I'd like this for a couple of June weddings coming up, if it's any good. I currently use a 28-135 IS, but I hope this can compliment my Sigma 70-200 f2.8 that was recently acquired.

How much is the lens you are bidding on likely to go for?

It's probably best you read some reviews of it first because you could be disappointed, I have no personal experience of this lens although others may be able to shed some light.

I use the Canon 17-55 f/2.8 IS, and I don't think anything will beat the image quality. I upgraded to this from the 28-135mm IS and the difference is very noticable. If you are lucky, you may be able to find one of these for cheap second hand. For a cheaper option, I've read many people going for the Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 and have had very good results.

Another thing to consider is that on the 450D crop sensor, 28mm is not that wide.....and although you may be used to it already with your 28-135mm, when I upgraded to the 17-55 the wider focal range from 17-28mm opened up a world of possibilities for your shots.

Well, currently it's @£51 with a day left to go. I've considered the 17-55 f2.8 but that is going to be a good deal more than I expect this lens to sell for. I did read plenty of reviews before posting on here, but you don't know what standpoint each reviewer is at. If a casual shooter says it's razor sharp, versus someone who has lots of published, reputed work saying it's razor sharp, it can be two very differnt things.
