Looking to downgrade

Hi guy's
Looking to downgrade from my 5d mk2 back to a crop but which body do i choose, the reason been, im out of work at the min and need some funds, so my only option is to sell my full frame and go back to a crop sensor, it guts me to do it, and im going to also have to shift my canon 17-40 F4 L to .
So guys/gals any ideas of which body i shoud downgrade to, i do all types of togging but mainly portraits,landscapes.

Why not drop a little further back in time beyond the 7D to a 40 or 50D?

I'm sure that they're capable of very good results, as was my 20D but they're getting a little old now.

TBH. I'd be perfectly happy with a 40 or 50D and a fast prime somewhere around 30mm.

Of course, you could ditch DSLR's and go to a MFT with some cheapo manual lenses That'll save even more money and it'll be fun shooting with lenses costing just a few quid.

Why not go back to an older full frame body, a 1Ds Mk1 or a 5D MK1? You'll trouser the difference from the 5D2 and not have to worry about different focal lengths.

5Ds seem to be really good value now (although all rather old!). There are a number on MPB for less than £500 now.

Stay full frame and go for a 5D MkI and you're not really losing much. You'll still have the same poor focus system and end up with very similar results as the 5D MKII but you'll have £500+ in your pocket.

I wouldn't be so hasty can you sell some glass with the end goal of buying it again when you are a bit more flush? What lenses have you got? No point getting a 7d they are expensive the sale of the 5d mk2 wouldn't even cover it.

Cheers for the reply guys, unfortunatley i have sold nearly all my glass now, all i have left is my 17-40 F4 L, canon 85mm 1.8 & nifty fifty. Im tempted to sell the whole lot a give nikon a blast or do i go back to a 40/50d with a siggy 10-20 and a nice 30mm prime.

I would go for a 50d, had mine a bit now, it's well built, great iq and great value for money.

Well lots of things go into making a good camera not just the sensor performance but performance per £1 the d5100 takes some beating or can't be beaten for £392 body only. You could then get the 35mm f1.8 for £140. Another option is sell the 17-40 sell the 85mm and then buy a samyang 14mm for landscapes and the 50mm for everyday use. The samyang is meant to be amazing sharp one of the highest rated lenses on dxomark.

What about a 5D MKI, you keep FF for your landscapes and portraits, its still a great camera and keep your lenses.
