Hi all,

looking to upgrade but cant decide, the two camera's are :

a) Nikon D300
or
b) Nikon D2X

your input and suggestions will be most valuable.

Many Thanks
Graham.

What is it about the D2X that interests you?

its a top class camera and for some reason (age I suppose) I can find it cheaper than the D300. Basically it really, your help would be appreciated.

D300 doesn't feel like a D2x does though! If you don't need higher iso than 800 then the D2x or better still the D2Xs is a better camera. I didn't like the small D300 body or the bolt on grip - never felt like a real camera. D2Hs is a special body too - have a look for one of them - better in many ways than the D2x- I love mine and I have a pair of D3 bodies!

Coming from a D60, do consider the weight of the body you go for combined with the weight of two or three higher spec lenses. Make sure you'd be happy to carry that weight for most of a day. With that in mind, don't discount the D90.

HI Andrew,

Andrew do you find the image quality suffers with the D2hs only having
4.1-4.3 million pixel sensor? - it does look a nice camera though.

Graham

no - amazingly it doesn't. I've had prints made to 18" x 12" with great quality. I think the camera has a special 'look' that even the D3 doesn't have. It is good to 1250 ISO. I have even upsized the images to 5050 pixels (48Meg) for Alamy without problems. I have loads of example shots if you want to see them. I was lucky and got both of mine after the price drop but they are quite hard to find now - especially new.

I should also say - it's also very fast - AF is fast and so is that shutter - large buffer too - so great for action.

In what ways, other than feel of the camera body, is the D2x better than a D300? That is a subjective thing after all.

It is subjective. The technology is better but the body wasn't for me - reasons above.

Thank you so much Andrew I really appreciate your time in this matter.

They are good :thumbs::thumbs:
