looking to upgrade

Im looking to upgrade my Nikon 300mm f2.8ED but im unsure what to go for. My budget would be around £1200 and it would be used mainly for wildlife. i would keep my 300 but i cant get a converter to fit it, so cant get the longer reach that i need.

Not sure how much you'll get for the 300mm, but I nearly bought a used 200-400mm f4 from aperture (decided to spend the cash differently now). Otherwise, maybe a sigma 500mm f4.5.

Nothing else obviously springs to mind

Im not expecting much for my lens but got a bit of cash to put towards new one, So many variations to look at im getting confused at which is the best option. Thanks for your suggestion,

If you're happy to go the 300mm and converter route, the af-s (non vr) version has recently been selling for around £2000 on a certain auction site. That definitely takes converters

i think 300 is the prefered route as it still give the flexibility but have looked at the 80-400vr but again it doesnt take teleconverter.

I have a Sigma 500mm f4.5. Combined with a Nikon DX it's a great option, as you have 750mm even before considering TCs. It's an old model of the lens, but I've had cracking results with it.

sigma do a 150 500 , which is really 225 to 750 on your camera , for about £800. probably worth a look
