Lost overboard!

Just saw an interesting bit on BBC SOUTH. A fisherman caught a camera in his nets of the coast of europe. Camera was ruined (prob a canon:D). The "memory stick" (as they termed it) was intact. There was a pic on it of the woman who had been taking snaps with it, with the QE 2 in the background. They did research on sailings etc and reckon that the camera went overboard in mid atlantic and the fisherman had it in his nets approx 18 months later. If she is identified from the pic wonder if the insurance company will be after her for a refund:D

Not sure whether this should have gone in talk equpment:)

How would they know if a woman in a picture was the one taking pictures. She might have been the subject not necessarily the owner.

I think it's a conspiracy.
The memory card was planted, nothing is as it seems :suspect:

Christ, what brand of memory card did she use? pretty sturdy

Also, why did they research sailings to find out when lost rather than just chack the exif?
Maybe cyclone's on to something.

That is what was reported "after taking some pics she lost it overboard"

Just goes to show that memory cards are pretty solid!

I seem to remember a story about a photographer killed on 9/11 whose cameras were ruined (film especially) but the memory cards survived the shock and impact and worked after being buried in hot rubble for about a week or so.

Yeah saw this earlier in this thread - http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=203249

How do they know the owner of the camera didn't go down with it! - :shake: No-ones mentioned that possibility, I'm not at all a pessimistic person really, but we've all over-reached for that shot, only to lose our balance

Probably a Nikon camera, Davy Jones being used to cannons decided Nikon was crap so made sure the seabed was not to be contaminated with them and sent it back up.
