Lost with micro adjustment

I took my Nikon 600f4 AFS lens out the back to see if i needed to dial in any micro adjustment to get the focus spot on.I also took out my D700 and D300 cameras as the lens will be used on both of these cameras.I took out 3 books that i have read and put them out at slightly different distances all near each other.Cameras set to f4, mirror up mode at a distance of 8.4m.

I downloaded the images into CS4 but the micro adjustment details arent showing--are they available in CS4 anywhere that im not looking?I can see a couple of images that look fine but dont know what my micro adjustment was at for those images as i went up from zero to +5 and the to -5 in increments of one.

Anyone ideas how i can find out which setting is best oot of them all.
 
Image 1 is with the D300--it just goes to show what the 1.5 crop factor of this camera is like campared to the D700 full frame-both images from the same place and focussed on same are of middle book.No sharpening or other adjustments just straight from raw to jpg

I don't think CS4 can tell you that information, I've certainly not seen it with my Canon stuff.

Where was the point of focus for every shot?
Without knowing where you focused upon and and then applied the adjustment to trim the focus we cant tell you which setting is better.
 
Are you sure it is recorded? I suspect it wouldn't be... could be wrong.

If you know the order you shot in, can't you work it out? EG first is 0, second is 1 etc etc?
 
On a Canon, the micro focus adjustment is shown when you open the image in Digital photo professional, canon's own software, but doesn't show up in cs5 etc.
I suspect if you look at the data in the Nikon software, it'll be there, I have a pal who is a Nikon user and I'll ask him tomorrow if no one has sorted it by then.

Work backwards? Or some more test shots at the end...?
 
My Nikon friend doesn't use capture 1 which I believe is the Nikon equivalent of Canon's own software, so sorry can't help, but I suspect if you open the image in Capture 1 and click on file info when you have an image open, it'll be there somewhere. Sorry can't be more specific.
