Love Macro / Portrait, which lens

I have only been taking pics for a little while and already i love taking macro and portriats. Now, Macro to me, at the mo, is with a 50mm 1.8!! Not really macro i guess.

What lens do you recommend that i could use Macro and Portrait? I ask this as i don't have bucket loads of money and i have seen it written by some that some Macro lenses are great for portraiture too? Am i wrong? If not, which lens would do a good job at both?

In the Canon range a 60 or 100 mm would be great though obviously would be longer on the crop sensor you have, anything more you'd need to stand back quite a bit for a full length shot.

for budget Sigma do a 50mmf2.8EX version that's not too pricey. You could always get some close up filters for the time being

Yea, guess some close up filters would be the best option for now. Can someone recommend some for my nifty fifty?

I have a cheapo set of Kood ones, they came in a nice case, +1, +2 and +4, I think... They're nowhere near as good as a macro lens but they are nice fun things.

Reynox seem to be recommended a lot but personally I don't think that it's worth spending an intermediate amount of money on this. If you want cheap, get a cheapo set... or extention tubes and if you want to spend more or get quality get a macro lens.

A 50mm is a nice general purpose lens, 100 or 150mm gives more working distance and nice bokeh but on the downside if you want to take a portrait you might need to take a taxi ride to get your subject in the frame.
