Lowepro Vertex 300 AW - Anyone got one of these backpacks?

If so how do you find it for comfort, weight and holding your kit etc?

Great piece of kit... Very versatile but also very heavy if you fill it. :D

It may be worth checking your local Curry's on the off-chance they've still got one in stock (although I doubt it) 'cos they were selling them off dirt cheap (like £49) a couple of months ago. :)

Hi Si,

I remember reading about that and the first thing I did was go to my local Curry's... all gone though :shake:

I have one and hate it.It's the worst Lowepro that I have ever owned.I much prefer my Minitrekker AW and I wish that I hadn't sold my computrekker plus.
Not saying it's a bad bag, just that i find it frustrating. The computrekker had the laptop section on the back of the bag and a nice big pocket on the front for a waterproof jacket etc.
Once you put a laptop in the Vertex there's very little room to fit anything else in.

£49 for the Vertex 300.That's an amazing price.Paid £150 for mine 3 weeks ago.

Cheers
Gary

I have one, and have to say it's amazingly comfortable to keep on my back even on long hikes stuffed with all sort of odd gear.

It's backside (the part that sits against your back) is so well contoured that it just makes you stand upright with amazing comfort.

It is huge, mind you; and having serious abdominal muscles issue means that I have to be very careful how I getup; but once standing, you barely notice the weight on your shoulders & back (even on 4~5 hours hike).

As I've said, it's big, can take a lot of stuff in there, more than you'd really need; but that's a good thing since you can stuff spare socks, t-shirts, and other goodies in there along with a couple of water bottles on the outside pockets.

I love it so much that I went and got the 200 and 100 versions too ; each has its' uses.

Great bag it takes my 600mm f4 i.s, 300mmf4 is, 2 bodies and teleconvertors and waterproofs in computer section. And it's comfortable as well.
Regards
Richard

Mine was delivered yesterday. First impressions were its a BIG bag. Much like a small suitcase in size and shape. I really wanted to see one before buying but i could not find them in stock anywhere so took a chance.

I have managed to get my 1D MKIII with 400 F5.6L attached, 50D, 300 F4 L, 70-200 F2.8L IS, 24-105L, 10-22 and odd bits and bobs in the main compartment with ease.

The padding and shoulder straps seem very comfortable and support the size and weight well

First outing with it will be Friday for Moto GP so fingers crossed :)

I've got one, and agree with the majority.
It's AMAZINGLY comfy! And stores loads of gear.

It really is a top notch bag.

But HUGE :D

I've got the Vertex 100 and that is heavy enough when I've got all my gear in it! Great bag BTW...

Oh, forgot to add; the 300 takes my 17" MacBook Pro without affecting how much camera gear I can stick in it; and despite being so big it is cabin-friendly on all airlines I've traveled on

Interesting you mentioning it being cabin friendly Wail, have you ever travelled Air France?

I am off to Paris in a few weeks time and I have heard that Air France can be a bit funny about cabin baggage

Air France, never used them while carrying this bag.

However, the 300 does conform to the standard frame, that's in Heathrow airport, for carry-on bags.

Also, I've just done a measuring of the bag (HWD), and it comes to 55mm / 35cm/ 25cm; which is a perfect fit for the Air France standards from here.

Hope this is of any help :).

You can also check with AirFrance official site, here.

I've also found this article by the BBC, it shows the accepted dimensions to be even bigger than the 300 is. Note they accept 45cm width, while th 300 is only 35cm wide.

I think with the 300, the only thing you'd have to worry about is the weight, as I've easy had over 20kg in it :cuckoo:; not sure that's permitted as carry-on baggage.
