Hi, being a canon user, I don't know the answer to this, so hopefully
someone can help.

Some Nikon DSLRs have an in camera feature of overlaying images
a bit like layers in PS.

Whats the cheapest/lowest model that carrys this feature?

thanks

Of the current ones, the D3100 is the cheapest.

If you want to go older, I know the D3000 does this.

Does anybody actually use this function?

I wouldn't really compare it to Photoshop layers, more like a slide sandwich with no means to mask.

I've just checked and my D40 has it, so I'm guessing Nikon stuck it in pretty much every (non-pro) DSLR they made.
You can pick up a D40 with kit lens for about £200 these days.

used all the time in night photography and light painting. great to get each part lined up and you can see the finished article on site. its so useful im thinking of a 2nd camera just for this function
