LR3 import catalog poroblems

I've got over 3000 images in my LR2 catalog.
I've pointed LR3 towards this catalog but it won't open or import them. I get the message I don't not have permissions.
I have then all as NEF files.
Is there a way to import the catalogues, I've told LR3 to upgrade the catalogues, which it does but I then get the message that it could not locate the files.
Any ideas :help:
 
Check that the files are not locked or set to read only.

LR3 updated my catalogue with something like 80,000 images OK
 
This is on iMac.
Changed all folder permissions to read/write everyone. Restarted and I'm able to import all of my 2009 folders but not my 2010 ones.
Instead of adding the folders to my new hard drive I was able to add the folders from their current location, not a great way to impress me.
I'm going to copy all the shots to DVD don't feel confident with the new incarnation.
 
It's best to move folders with lightroom. Just drag and drop.

Only issue is it doesn't do multiple folders at a time.
