Thanks to Comet . . . I was wandering around on Friday, realy looking for a pair of headphones, the locusts had been. So siddled over to the cameras, nothing in mind
honest. I have stugled recently to take pictures, uninspired one has been. However, I had been brousing on line earlier in the week, reading a few bits, amoung them something on the Lumix TZ30.
Spied a lonely camer on a display stalk, no . . . it cant be, it is, I have fancied a small P&S for a while, the TZ30 being high on the list. Thirty percent off making it £169, bargin, Hazel looked at me a bit sideways but its nearly Christmas . . .
Took it out for the first time Saturday on a deep sea fishing trip, no not the most sensible move, knew nothing, not read the destructions, so put it on 'P' mode, that should get something. We had a stonking day, cod to 23lbs, so the camera was put to good use. Amazing, regardless of light, which was fadding, it did the business, the ISO and everything else was on auto, factoy defalts, so etting were all over the place.
So this morning, I went through the menu, much more user friendly than the G1 which is so good to handle, but not the best in understanding the menu stakes. Re set the TZ30 to my preferances, but still keeping it on 'P' mode. I took the dog to the local field.
Its great not having a house brick around ones neck, and yet the potential of taking some decent quality, 'on the off chance pictures' . . . decent quality by my standards anyway?
I got adventurus and started looking at the menu, its very easy, even for me. Mmm . . . are DSLR type camera dead . . . obviously not, but for people like me who dont go out on pictures taking sessions, the new breed of P&S is a revelation. One thing I missed, an animated rear screen and it was obvious, the screen was not happy in bright sunlight . . . At the price paid I am not unhappy with the compromise.

High ISO
No red eye reduction
'Walking the Dog'
'Grandads Beard'
'Frosty day'
'Up close and personal'
The two fishing photos were as the camera saw them on factory settings.
The other 4 are me setting the ISO to 200, in 'P' mode the idea, to see where we can go, the rose hip is on macro. Obviously the close ups need a lager apatuer and the ISO can be set to 100, as it was bright and sunny.
Lots of scope, lots of control, 24mm wide angle, 20x zoom, I am impressed with my Comet recevers bargain.
