Hi guys,

I have bought an M42 adapter for my camera and after drooling at the array of cheap lenses on ebay :D

My question is, does anyone have any recommended bargain lenses? I think my first will be the Helios 44-2, wouldn't mind a 135 as well. Any suggestions as I am not familiar with a lot of the makes?
 
Pentax super multi coated takumar 135mm f3.5 is rather nice for around £35 imho.
 
Got the helios 44m-4 M42 find it a little soft but nice bokeh.

It might just be my lens that's not great as i've heard varying reviews on them.

Mine's a little sloppy on the aperture ring... might be something to check before buying one.

It was ridiculously cheap though!!!
 
Any variant of the Takumar 50 1.4 is worth a look, but they aren't quite the bargains they used to be any more as most give it a run out. Not exactly expensive though! :lol:

Just be wary of the mirror catching the rear element when focussed to infinity (although it can be overcome if it happens).
 
Any of the Super Tacks are fine lenses, of the Russian ones I like the Tair 135 and the Jupiters.
Incidentally, the old James Bond films are playing a lot just lately, I was watching you only live twice last night in which Aki a japanese bond girl was racing about in a Toyota 2000, it had some kind of communication radio in it which the camera panned to every time someone spoke over the airwaves.
This radio had 2 50mm 1.4 supertaks mounted in it, god knows how they were supposed to be an integral part of a 2 way radio....but there ya go...:shrug:

what a flippin waste..:lol:

The photos are terrible the first soft etc but love the bokeh of the helios!

The Pentacon preset 135/2.8 is a cracker if you love creamy bokeh! The Carl Zeiss Jena 135/3.5 is sharper and has more 3D, and also has nice bokeh.

As for normal lenses, the Super Takumar 55/1.8 or 55/2 is a decent lens too, also with nice bokeh. The Jupiter 85/2 is EXTREMELY good value and the Sankor 105/2.5 is also brilliant for portraits :)
