Hi guys

My windows laptop was set as the primary mail thingy bob and it was the only machine that was allowed to remove messages from the server, my imac and the iphone were only allowed to download a copy.
I'm no longer using the laptop anymore and would like mac mail to do the removing from the server but i'm jiggered if I can see the setting for it.

Also, is there a way to make mac mail give delivery notifications like outlook could?

Hello. Right click the account and edit. Click the advanced button (whilst in the accounts tab) and the third option down is removing copy from server - there you can specify how long, if at all, it stays there.

There is no straightforward way of doing this. I did find a very fiddly way which had limited success but I soon gave up on it and I can't find it now. I wouldn't impose it on a mate, anyway.

Do w0t I did. Ditch Mac mail and use Postbox. It's the only mail app I've found that is stable and consistent in both XP and on a Mac. I've now stopped using it under XP only cos I don't handle mail under XP.

Who's server are you downloading them from?

I'm pretty sure I can choose to do either of these options (i.e. leaving them on the server or deleting them on download) with my gmail account to Mac Mail.

Cant you use the IMAP which leaves your e-mails on the server until you delet or POP£ which once you have down loaded removes the e-mail from the server?

Thanks for the comments

Apple's backwardness with regards to an outlook rival is really quite surprising

This works, I use this function.

Mail is much better than outlook in my opinion.
