Macbook Pro logic board

A friend of mine has recently bought a new Macbook Pro as his old 2.2Ghz 15-inch died from the logic board failing. He took it into a couple of shops to have the laptop tested and they've all quoted £600-£700 to replace the board with a new one (it's definitely the LB that's failed). He didn't want to go to the trouble, so just bought a whole new MBP.

Therefore I'm considering buying the old MBP for cheap and changing out the logic board myself. Question is: where can I find working 2nd hand boards and how much should I expect to pay for one?

Cool, thanks purpleclouds - looks like I can pick one up for around £400.

I've decided to grab the MBP off my friend and fix it up in the new year

if it's related to a graphics/hardware failure you do know apple issued a statement to replace logic boards under warranty after the issues with nVidia chips, don't you...?

edit: why is a link appearing? I didn't put it there!!

It's something within the forum to attach adverts to certain words to get some revenue for the forum, it's been doing it for ages.

Yes, my friend took it in to the Ap-p-le store in London and they said it was definitely the logic board and not the graphics card that was at fault. I also immediately thought of this issue, but apparently Ap-p-le have turned a lot of people away who thought they could get their MBP's fixed under this statement...

I've since decided not to buy the lappy off my friend, especially considering the cost of getting it running versus what you can pick up a fully working MBP 2nd hand for.
