I've bought a mini dsiplayport to HDMI lead as I'd like to see how things look when working in Lightroom and PS using the 40" screen in the living room, but does anyone know what lead I'd need to get the sound up and running for movies and the like? it's a Sony TV if that helps?

oooh. I have a sony bravia 1080p 40 inch screen too and would love to know how to do this.

P.S - sorry if you thought this was an informative reply Dman.

Depends what inputs your sony tv has. For me, I would run a 3.5mm phono jack to the back of my amp- if you sony has a line in, thats what you need. 3.5mm > 3.5mm jack.

Right, from what I can make out (despite lots of varying info online) is that a 3.5mm jack to dual RCA cable should do the trick. Going to buy one anyway as they're only a couple of quid, so nothing to lose.

Yeap, that will do the trick and give you stereo :) I have a ton of them at home if you want me to send you one.

Literally just bought one off ebay before returning to this thread!

Thanks anyway.

Hmmm, I get a picture absolutely fine but no sound whatsoever. Never had a problem using my old Macbook with the Mini DVI-DVI with the DVI-HDMI. Both sound and picture worked fine then, but not this time for some reason.

I'd run an optical line out to my Amp, not sure if your TV allows that though.

The Macbook headphone / line out socket is also an optical line out.

I know literally less than nothing about these things.

This is what my TV has in the way of connections;

Connector Type: 2 x HDMI ( 19 pin HDMI Type A ) ¦ 1 x VGA input ( 15 PIN HD D-Sub (HD-15) ) ¦ 1 x S-Video input ( 4 PIN mini-DIN ) ¦ 1 x SPDIF output ( TOS Link ) ¦ 1 x headphones ( mini-phone stereo 3.5 mm ) ¦ Composite video input ( RCA phono ) ¦ Component video input ( RCA phono x 3 ) ¦ 2 x SCART ( 21 PIN SCART ) ¦ 1 x audio line-in ( mini-phone stereo 3.5 mm ) ¦ Audio line-in ( RCA phono x 2 ) ¦ 1 x audio line-out ( RCA phono x 2 )

Right, sorted it. There's two audio in slots at the back of the TV. I've been working blind as the TV's mounted on the wall so I couldn't see them at first.
