Would really appreciate your thoughts here.

I've owned a 17" Macbook Pro 2.4 Ghz with 4Gb memory since 2007. It's got a 160GB hard drive running at 7200rpm, and the GeForce 8600M GT 256MB card. It's a lovely machine and its Apple Care runs out in July. I'm considering whether or not to sell and buy the latest model, or perhaps just go with a perfectly good functioning machine.

I'm doing an OU course through the work and am therefore eligible to buy the Student Edition of Photoshop CS4 Extended for £157:thumbs: and I'll probably upgrade Aperture 2 for workflow/initial processing. Do you think my MBP will do the job for a few years yet?

Any advice appreciated! I'm a compulsive spender who needs talked down! I bought a kit D40 two years ago, sold it after a couple of months and before I knew it I had a D300 and D90. Now I'm happy as Larry and taking better photos with a D40 and a G11!
 
There are some new models rumoured to be coming out soon. Personally I'd wait and see what transpires. I've got a 15"MPB ( Uni body) and until I got my i5 iMac thought it was fast enough. (needed to upgrade aging Dell desktop)

There is an old adage, " Aint broke don't fix it. ". If your current machine is doing OK at the moment and your not getting through loads of coffee waiting for it to do things, then I wouldn't spend the money.

If you've space, you might want to consider getting an external monitor.

I'll not forget that lads if I decide to sell her! I prefer the look with the silver keys to the black plastic ones on the unibody machines!
