Hey guys, I'm looking at these lenses and I wondered what you thought,

http://www.pixmania.co.uk/uk/uk/89773/art/canon/ef-s-60-2-8-macro-usm-len.html#avisconso
For taking closeup shots, I want to be able to get really close to insects mainly.

For low-light without the flash, the main reason for this is I was taking some night shots in London the other night and without flash it was really blurry and with flash everything around went dark.

Any advice greatly appreciated!! Thanks a lot.

I can't see you going far wrong with either of those.

The 50mm 1.8 is a great low light lens .

The 60mmm 2.8 macro is an excellent lens. Going longer with the focal length - 100mm or more, gives you a better working distance from bugs without scaring them off, but you'd still get great results with this lens. Just be aware, that as it's an EF-S lens, it wont fit Canon 1 Series bodies if you ever wanted to upgrade.

my advice would be don't go anywhere near Pixmania. Worst service I've ever had - and far from cheapest too often.

I would also say stay away from pixmania, not heard good things at all. As for the lenses, the 50mm f/1.8 is not a macro lens, its magnification is about 1:7. As for the 60mm f/2.8 Macro, it is a true macro lens with a magnification of 1:1, but i don't think 60mm would be adequate for insect macro photography. You would need to get extremely close to the subject with 60mm.

Thanks for the replies guys, sorry took me so long to get back!

I've had great experiences with Pixmania, and I got my TV £150 cheaper tan anywhere else! Not bought camera stuff from there yet though, where do you guys normally shop?
