I want to create a single large image showing particles of a few micro meters. A 105mm lens plus extension tubes will show the detail needed however I need take these images of a 400mm diameter disk.
I can stitch the images after tacking them but need to keep the camera at the same relative distance whilst panning.
A 4 way macro rail e.g. http://www.amazon.com/Macro-Focusing-Focus-Slider-Camera/dp/B009WKRNAE would be ideal however they all appear to be too small.
Any suggestions ?
Thanks

maybe a camera slider ? move either the disk or the camera

wouldnt you end up with a insanely massive file sticking them all together?

It will be a large file but I have access to the compute power to deal with that.
The sample has to settle so can't be moved

I might have half an idea, but a couple more details would help flesh it out:
* Presumably the object you're photographing is essentially two dimensional?
* What kind of magnification will you be achieving (or how much of the object will fit into the frame)?
* Can you move the object during the process?

Hi.
Yes the objects are essentially 2d. think microbes on a plate however they can not be moved but the camera can.
~500 - 1000 microns long.

no probs. We have a plan to make something I was wondering if my googling had missed something obvious

I can't think that anything precise enough is going to be cheap, particularly with 400mm of travel on two axis.
