macro filters

My boyfriend borght me macro filters for Christmas now they come in handy but i noticed when using them that manual focus is always a little bit off when i take a picture throught them any idear why or how to counter act it?

i use some macro filters myself too but not too often tho.

The problem with these filters are they do the job ok but thats only ok.

Image quality and sharpness is not as good as the lens can perform.

I find it great when i using my 35mm prime with the filter but when i use the same filter on my 135mm prime the quality of the image is really bad and it doesn't focus well either.

When you say that the focus is a bit off, do you mean that the pic is blurry overall, or that the focus point is in front or behind the subject?

Are you using flash or natural light? The shutter speed could be too low causing motion blur.

Best way to focus would be to use live view zoomed in a bit and move the camera forward or back to get the focus where you want it.

It could also be that the filters are just not up to the job. What make are they?

Best would be to post an example with exif intact so we can see your settings.

alot of time when i use these macro filters are even you shooting outdoor with decent light it still require some technique and steady hands or even use a flash to get the focus and sharpness.

I got a good set of these when I got my first dslr for xmas 2010. I used them quite a lot with my 18-55 IS kit lens and really enjoyed what I got results wise. I eventually decided I liked macro that much I bought a 100 f2.8 L which was amazing. I didn't need the filters anymore so I sold them off a while back. I've just got an MP-E65 macro lens for this xmas and can't wait to give that a good go. The filters do take a bit of getting used to, but they are very rewarding for the price when you do get it right. You do need plenty of light though as the filter does take light away.
