Macro flash recommendation

I have a canon 50d and a sigma 105 macro lens. I have been using my sigma 500dg super flash mounted on the hotshoe with a diffuser with ok results. Now looking to improve on this and wondered what others thought would be best.
I will either be looking to get a flash bracket and off shoe cord from fitp. Or the other alternative would be a new flash. I have seen a marumi DRF14 equivalent on ebay for £72.
Which setup do you think will give the best results?

A lot depends on how close you want to go - getting decent light in there is the main problem at 1:1, hence ring-flash.

Marumi is basic but gets good rep and is certainly good value.

You're right, the good thing about the 105 is that I don't have to get quite as close as with some macro lenses so using the sigma 500 dg super on a bracket would definately work. That would also be the cheapest option and you can probably tell from the fact that I am not even contemplating stretching to a geuine Marumi that cost is a factor here.
Just looking for opinions on which images will in theory be better.
Although there are plenty decent reviews on the Marumi there seems to be very little user feedback.

The main problem with a ring flash is its harsh and hard to diffuse, just use your current flash with a Blue Peter diffuser, or a off camera bracket with a ttl cord - Flash in the Pan sells both on TP.

for inspiration have a look here

Definitive answer, that's what I like. So your decision is made I will go spend my money. And blame you for my results :D

I've been following the macro rig thread for a while now and there are some great ideas in there.
Just had a quick look at FITP's thread and a C bracket and cord is probably what I'm after. Would this be enough to get the flash right up front if need be? I have a lumiquest diffuser type thingy which can also be used. Would the reach of the bracket be enough with my new lens? Here
