Peronally dont like the light from a ring flash, harder to contol & diffuse and You may be better wih a twin flash with that lens, as the MWD is only 4cm.
There are also some LED flash about that can be used - although I've not had any experience of using them, they are cheaper than a dedicated flash gun, might be worth a look at
I recently got a Sigma EM-140 DG ring twin flash for my Canon setup and I find it the best macro flash I've used by far. It's a ringflash shape but the flash is in 2 individual spots. You can use either one independantly and you can twist it round to suit any position. Very fully featured, but also E-TTL for when you want automation and there's lots of adapter rings for varying lenses available. It's not cheap but it is available in a Sony mount and the build quality is excellent. Here's a link to the Sigma page http://www.sigmaphoto.com/shop/em-140-dg-macro-flash-sigma It's well worth a look, specially if you're a buy once buy right and not a buy cheap buy many sort of person.
