Macro lens for Nikon D3200

I'm looking at getting a macro lens for my Nikon D3200 and didn't know if there was any in particular that anyone would recommend for a reasonable price?

Is there one in particular you think I would be best to go for? And tbh I'd probably do better to get one that can take moving too just so its there?

Tbh mate I will mainly use it with a tripod indoors for pictures like your macro ones on Flickr of the pencils etc and outdoors of insects and flowers
 
Lol, apart from the odd one or two on my flickr they're just took with normal lenses. The close ups of the stamens on the Livingstone Daisy were took with a raynox dcr 250. I don't own a macro lens unfortunately. :(
 
Oh really? I thought the one of the pencils and sharpenings we're took by a macro lens. I was debating whether to get one to be honest, money and that lol. If you was to get one, what one would you choose?
 
The cheapest... :D haha.

It was took with the Nikon 35mm f1.8 on a d7000. Having your 3200 with 24mp you could crop in alot further and still have a sharp good shot.

If I'm honest and i had the cash, I'd probably opt for the Tamron 90mm VC but I have this urge to buy the Nikon 40 for some reason even though I have the 35. :thinking:

So with the macro they are just one size aren't they? Like no zooming etc is the nikon 40 the better one out of the 3 would you say? Cheers for your help mate I knew I could rely on you hahaha
 
Lmao.

They're a set focal length yes, usually with an aperture of 2.8 although some do have f2 and the odd one or two? go down to f3.5.

If you're wanting it for bugs then the longer the better. If you want it for non moving stuff such as watches, clocks, coins, flowers etc then a smaller one should be ok. They're usually extremely sharp with very little barrel distortion.
 
Okay mate, yeah like i say will mainly like 99% be indoors of pictures like still life type pictures etc so think i will do better going for the nikon 40mm or the tamron 90mm ill take a picture of the setup id be using just so you can see how sort of close ill be taking the pictures

as soon as you have seen it ill delete the picture off my flickr i just didnt want to remove it before incase you couldn't see it on here

Nice little setup there, ill have some tubes soon, (if those cheap crappy things that come from HK) are ok, hopefully with a prime on or my 70-300 should be real close. cant wait for the summer with all those bugs n stuff.

Thanks mate I've got then proper lighting etc too but obviously have nothing setup ATM properly as not got a macro lens etc.
Yeah mate that's it hopefully we get a nice summer this year! You too mate.
 
lol my bugs will be a little different than yours i guess, im talking scorpions, prey mantis and large ants..
Im in the south of France. :wave:

And I dont have the light box like yours, in fact I have nothing at all lol

Tbh mate it's just a black glass table and the lightbox is my other halfs she takes pictures of her nails lol I think the card setups sometimes look better too mate. For that sort of distance do you think I would do better with the nikon 40mm or the tamron 90mm?
 
I'll have a look at my lenses and see the difference in size and then choose like that so I can see how close I would have to be etc
 
Don't forget that macro lenses work different to gain 1:1 magnification ratio. With the 40 you will be extremely close to your subject... almost touching it. I think the Tamron would probably be the best bet.

Or perhaps the Sigma.

Or maybe the Nikon.

Hahahahaha oohhhhh Jesus!! I really ain't got a clue which one would be best. I just want one really that I could use for pretty much all macro shots
 
Well i was gonna say get a 70-300 and some tubes then you could sit at the table/eat your food/watch telly and...... photograph :p

If I bought the Tamron I'd always want the VC version and at £400 that won't be happening. The Sigma is a fair few quid and for that price you could get a second hand nikon 105. 40mm does strike me as being a bit useless with it being a short focal length but would be a good prime lens that is sharp as a tack for walk around type stuff, BUT I already have the 35 1.8 so I'm not sure I'd get the use out of it I should do... there is also a 60mm macro lens from Tamron and one from Nikon. The Tamron is f2 too.

Then there are the tubes which produce some great results and they will AF too... and they're cheaper... but it's not another lens.

I give up. :LOL:

I was looking to spend around £400 anyway, was just having a look and like you say I don't think the nikon 40mm will be as much use for me as if it was outside etc I would have to be fairly close and will probably block out a lot of light

Tbh I've been reading more about the Tamron SP 90mm f/2.8 Di Macro 1:1 VC USD and looks like this could be the one!!!

The VC on the Tamron will be absolutely superb. Well it is on my 70-300 anyway. See if you can find a 90 vc comparison with the 105 vr. I dare say the Tamron will fair very well.
 
Hahaha not again LOL and that should fit alright on my nikon? As a lot of them say there for canon but on that digital rev site you can chose what fitting either nikon or canon

If i'm honest though, i'd go to Jessops and pay £399 and you'll get a proper UK version and you can then take advantage of their 5 year warranty. AND you can go and pick it up from the store if they have it in stock. ;)

Yeah i did wonder why it went up a tenner lol Yeah ill try jessops mate dont know where the closest one to me is most of them got shut down :(
 
Some years ago, when I was in the market for a Macro lens, I had a play with the Sigma 105 and the Tamron 90 and was impressed with both. It was purely that a Tamron appeared on a 2nd hand shelf first that made me go for that over the Sigma. At the time, the Nikkor was way beyond my means. However, I now have the Nikkor which is a little sharper than the Tamron and is the current VR and AF-S version while my Tamron was the old screw driven version (no AF on the D3200).

If the lens is going to be devoted to Macro use (it's also great for portraits if you have the space to get far enough away from the subject with a crop sensor), the lack of AF isn't a huge problem and the older screw driven versions are relatively cheap. The lack of VR isn't a huge problem either, it (VR) is of limited value at Macro focal distances. Only problem is tracking a 2nd hand one down - I waited about 18 months for one to turn up locally!
