macro lens recomendations

I`m looking for a macro lens for my 1d mk2 so it needs to be ef fitting and i have a budget of £300.00 , i`ve been looking at the canon 100mm 2.8 but they seem to be just out of my reach , and wondered if there were any good ones for the money sigma, tamron etc
 
Big vote for the Sigma 105mm nice working distance fab sharpness :thumbs: cant go wrong with it :thumbs: I wouldnt go for less than 100mm if you want to shoot insects and stuff thats flighty, as you need to get to close, :thumbs: and you can always add tubes if you want to get closer
 
You should be able to pick-up a canon 100mm macro used in the TP sale section for about £300 ish

Is the focusing inside the lens or does the end move(sorry that is such a crap attempt at describing it )
 
Tamron 90mm is another option.. although the Canon is so nice you might as well save up ;) USM and full-time manual focus make it a good lens for non-macro as well.

Tamron has about 10cm working distance at 1:1, The Canon has 15cm. Depending on what you shoot, that may make a difference...
 
The canon one in excellent, I update to the L version and other than IS theres not much in it.

Keep an eye on eBay if you;re not having much luck here - some have gone recently around the £250 mark.
 
been looking myself, but after recent purchases the macro is on hold...so Id try looking on gumtree if I were you...might find what you want within budget ;)

Its a really sharp lens and it has a good feel to it.

:plusone: i find its a great for candid portraits as well
 
I been looking at the sigma lens and i`ve found one but it`s the non dg version what difference will this make?
