Am about to go out to test my new toy tamron 90 -macro - should I set camera to macro mode or aperture priority - if the latter any advice on f stop

I won't have much time before sun goes down

Thanks - I have been using a raynox this is the next step

f11 is a good choice- if you have a flash this also helps to capture some great Macro shots

If not then pushing the ISO up will help maintain a faster shutter speed

Look forward to seeing the results Sam

Les ;)

I have this lens on a 450d

I started off using Aperature mode and going for the smallest aperature I could get away with whilst keeping the shutter speed quick enough.

worked great ... but still had a very small DOF so insects had there heads in focus but everything else blured.

flowers more more sucessful as I could use a tripod and shrink the aperature to f-16

I only lasted 2 weeks though before I gave in and bought a flash ..... Manual mode, F/22 and 1/200 exposure and insects are now fair game

Thanks Les

I do have a flash but I have never used it - better dig it out - never made it out last night so off thus evening as soon as hubby gets home.
