Macro Lenses for Landscapes?

Yes
As the title implies, my question is simply this:

For lenses listed as 'macro', does that mean they are no good for landscapes?

I ask in particular reference to the Sigma 17-70mm f/2.8-4 DC Macro OS HSM, as I shop around for a lens to use mainly for landscapes, particularly sunsets.

Thanks in advance.

Yep, that would be absolutely fine for landscapes. Macro just means that, if need be, it can focus at short-range. I would imagine with that kind of zoom range it's not intended as a dedicated macro lens in any case.

As far as I'm aware, on something like the Sigma it just means you can focus 'quite close', though not true macro. My 24-70 Sigma is the same.

I have this lens and its brilliant for its price range and I'm very much into landscapes.

It does sound like an excellent lens. Not sure if my budget will stretch to it though but I probably can afford the non-OS version second hand!

Had the non hsm version for two years, fantastic range and nice and sharp took 80% landscapes pics with it.

Useful zoom range as a walkabout lens as well.

Go for it much better than the kit lens

In the end I shelled out for the OS version, was only about £100 more brand new than the non-OS version second-hand so I'm pretty happy with that. £311 off Amazon. Had one bad experience before buying a camera off an Amazon third-party, but this one is directly from Amazon.
