Ola eveyone,

I am looking to get into doing some Macro photography, mainly toys, and I was wondering what the options are for around £300, I'm afraid I cant stretch my budget to get the 105mm Nikon, so my questio is which one of the following is the best for a D300s

Nikon 60mm
Sigma 105mm
Tamron 90mm

I currently have a 50mm f1.8 and a 16-85mm, I was wondering if it is worth it to get a close up lens for the 50mm to get me closer to the subject or is it just not worth it.

Also if I get any of the above Macros, can I then use them for Portrait photography?

I've got no experience of the other lenses in your list but I do have the Sigma 105mm and love it. Incredibly sharp and very bright.

If you get a set of Kenko extension tubes and use your 50mm you'll get about 1:1 magnification and as they have no glass in them you wont lose any IQ.
 
I also have a sigma 105 and cannot rate it highly enough.
I haven't actually used it for anything macro yet, but can report that it makes a fantastic portrait lens.

The only thing is you loose your infinity focus abilities but I just read somewhere that you can focus upto 50 yards **** should be good enough for most things.

I will look for a cheap 2nd hand macro, if not iwill just get a set of these.

you only get maximum magnification at the minimum focus point of the lens - this is also true for a macro lens, as you focus further away the magnification reduces.
