Yes
thinking of getting a macro rail soon, seen a few on eBay, but not really sure what I am looking for, I only want to buy once so any recommendations ?

Rick,

For what it's worth,I started off with one of these

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Macro-Focus-S...cessories_TripodsSupports?hash=item5ad52cc3b0 reasonable value for money but the stacked up build introduces some instability when used with heavier lenses.

I graduated to a Velbon Super Mag Slider
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Velbon-4-Way-..._Photographic_Accessories?hash=item20ae44f408 much more refined and stable. It lacks a distance scale for stacking but not a big issue IMO

I have now moved on to a Novoflex Castel Cross-Q double framed slider...the bee's knees (but at a price)

I started with the manfrotto 454 which isn't bad but lacks side to side adjustment and I'm currently using the Velbon super mag slider as in Canon Bob's 2nd link which i 'm very please with.
