Macro Rail

Is "yes but" a valid answer?

It'll definitely make things easier (though it is possible to do it without - i've done stacked macros before by just sliding a mini-tripod across the table a fraction of a mm at a time). But it isn't the whole answer,vthere are still difficultied with stacked macro, for example i had one set of images which lined up perfectly, but because the out-of-focus parts spread out beyond their edges it can result in some tricky post-processing to get the correct parts stacked.

Not tried a macro focussing rail yet though...

You can find plenty on ebay for a reasonable price that do the job as good as those costing much more from conventional retailers.
