mafrotto Joy stick?

more of a pistol grip if you ask me but anyhow have you used one do you like it? I want a new tripod and head, probably go with manfrotto since I have manfrotto mono already. plan to add fluid head later...

I have one and its fantatsic, great gripping power, fantastic control and it just works really well in every department

I have a 322RC and am very pleased with it, very firm grip with no sag and very fast to adjust. The range of motion is more limited than ball heads etc. but it's not been a problem for me.

I use a Manfrotto 222 joystick head and find it good but look to replace it at some point. As mentioned I find the range is a bit limited and it adds quite a bit of height also, not handy if you want to get down low

Yeah you could, I got mine because it was bundled with the tripod but would prefer a ball head in all honesty.

I tried a few manfrotto ones out, they are just like a ball head but easier to move.

I got a ball head because the pistol equiv was too £££. If you can afford it though, go for it.

I've had both the Manfrotto trigger heads. Still got one somewhere. Compared to a normal ball head, they are fast to use. That's it. No other advanatges.

They are hard to adjust for critical accuracy, and ultimate clamping power isn't great, even after you adjust it.

The best budget ball head I've used is the RedSnapper RSH-12 - bargain for £50. V smooth and accurate, nice to use. I have a Benro J-2 which is a bit better still, and lighter, but several times the cost. Benro B-1 is very good value. Some of the higher end Giottos are also good and well priced, not sure of the model numbers though.
