Forgive me if this is in the wrong section.

Someone recently told me about the magic lantern software for canon cameras. Is anyone using this on their camera and if so how do they rate it?

I was also told that when used on the 50D it allows you to record video, though I haven't found anywhere saying this on their website.

I am using the latest release on my 5DII.

Have been using it for just over a week now and I really like it.
I have not used any where near all the functions yet, and and many I never will. For the small bits that I have used, it has work really well and it has added extra functions in camera which canon COULD have done anyway.

The main functions that I have used so far are the bulb timer, zebras and Bracketing.
the bulb timer allows you to do timed exposures without the need for a cable release, it does also have the added bonus of setting mirror lockup as well.

The Bracketing feature goes way beyond canons standard by allowing up 9 different exposures, this can be set as you would like or you can let ML work it out for you.

I am hoping to try some more of the other functions out over the next week or so.

i have it on my 50D worth it just for the extra bracketing it can do there is a new free release on the 13th august this will be going on mine when its out

sounds like it's ok, might give it a go, the "this may destroy your camera" warning/disclaimer in the instructions had me worried!

Thanks for the responses.

I'd done a quick search and it didn't bring anything up but just done the advanced one and seen the recent thread about the same thing. Apologies for the duplicate thread.

Also just read something on another website about the 50D getting very hot when using the video mode, i guess as it's not designed to record video. Don't like the idea of cooking it!

I didnt mean it like that I meant you can find out more as well from the other threads

i used it on my 550d, the only thing i found useful was the options for more iso settings. but the menu system annoyed me so i removed it.
