Evening everyone,

I'm now sick of my Mighty Mouse... I've put up with them since I moved to the Mac about 1 1/2 year ago now but the battery life and actual ergonomics is killing me.

So, would you recommend I upgrade to the Magic Mouse or buy something from Logitech/Razer?

Comfort and tracking performance are the essentials for me...

TIA!

Really happy with the magic mouse. I had to use the mighty mouse a couple of weeks ago when the batteries went flat and it felt horrible.
I did loads of research before ditching the mighty mouse and concluded that the Logitech ones were really good, but had a few software issues, so went with the Apple one.

You really need to find an Apple Store and give one a good try out.

I hated the Mighty Mouse and dumped it after a day. I recently played with a Magic Mouse in the Apple Store for an hour or so and loved it enough to consider ditching my Logitech MX Revolution for one.

Hmm, Magic Mouse sounds promising then. Heard a few good comments on them over on a Mac forum too.

I have a Logitech MX at work and I do find it really comfortable but if the software support isn't that good on the Mac I just go for the Magic mouse...

I've been wanting one since the launch to be honest but just wanted to hear some opinions from people using them for image manipulation, as accurate tracking is important to me.

So... where can I find the best deal on one? :)

I'm using a magic Mouse. Yes it is better than the mighty mouse, which I thought was fine. Didn't really have any problems with it.

Your going to pay around £56 for it which is the price at the Apple Store. Did find a few a few pence cheaper, but the Apple store ships with Free Postage. Seems Dixons and Warehouse Express have them as well.

Got the Magic Mouse and love it BUT, the battery life is quite disappointing. I've had to change them three times in as many months. The cordless mice I used to have pre mac lasted on average a year to a year and a half!

Ah well, seem's I'll still be keeping Energizer in business then!

My Logitech one at work hasn't even finished the first set yet 8 months on, although bluetooth does suck more power than the RF signal Logitech use.

On a slightly different tangent I've kind of replaced mine with a Wacom tablet (I still use the mouse, but hardly ever these days)

Both the Mighty Mouse and the Magic Mouse do have off switches. So you can turn them off if they aren't going to be used for a while.

I've also switched to rechargeable batteries. Can never find an AA when you want one, have loads of rechargables though.

I bought a magic mouse for Christmas - best accessory I've bought for the computer. Turn it off if you aren't at the computer and save battery life - its easy to turn on again and only seconds before it is ready to use.

Stuff Eneloops in the Apple keyboard and mouse. They only last about a month but re-charge over night and last whilst not being used.

Shame Apple does not do one with a built in battery and a USB connection so it charges whilst plugged in like the PS3 controllers.

Thanks again for all the input in here guys!

Although, I feel really bad saying this - I've changed my mind dramatically... :whistling:

I'm going to put my Mac Pro and 30" Cinema display on eBay and purchase a laptop...

I'm still up in the air over a MacBook Pro or a Dell Studio XPS 16, but either one will be more suited to me - plus I can pay a large chunk of my credit card with the money left over.

Still use the mouse a bit though, and my scroll wheel has packed up, so have the excuse, just need funds.

If you have a dodgy scroll ball on a mighty mouse. Get a can of foam cleaner and some of those blue jay cloths. Spray plenty of the foam on the cloth and turn the mouse upside down then run it over the wet cloth round in circle and backwards and forwards with a little pressure on the ball. Keep having a look at the ball and you will notice after a few minutes that it becomes really clean and white again. Just keep doing this using different parts of the cloth and then switch to a dry one for a bit. You will find that in most instances the ball will start to work again. I have managed to get every one to work again using this method although with one or two I have had to repeat it either once or twice. You have nothing to lose, give it a try.

30" Cinema display
Nice........ You will miss it! Maybe worth considering keeping the display and selling the pro to get a Macbook pro then using the display whilst at home.

I know, I will miss it but I'd rather hit the credit card with the money from selling it.

I'm actually leaning towards getting the Dell XPS 16 since its screen is 1920x1080 so wouldn't be so bad and comparing it between a MBP it has a better spec for a fair bit less...

I use a MBP with 1920x1200, it is hard to drop in resolution! Try using the cinema display at 1920x1200 for a few days first!

Will give that a try. Might be a thick question, but what do you mean by foam cleaner?

Something like this:

You should be able to get it all over the place, probably can on ebay. If ou cant get any I am sure me or someone else near to Preston can pick some up off CPC or they might do mail order.

EDIT:

This is the stuff I actually use:

Had a Mighty mouse, them a Magic Mouse - now got a Logitech MX1100R - best mouse I've ever owned. More comfortable and easier to use than either of the apple offerings (and I'm a huge Apple fanboi) and it's rechargeable :)

Another tip for cleaning the ball in the Mighty Mouse is Blu-Tak.

Yep, it works...

Get a decent amount of blu-tak and make a 2" square with it, then scroll the ball in a figure of eight on top of it a few times.

:agree: for the Magic mouse!

Had a mighty mouse and really use to get wound up by the roller ball on top behaving intermittently when it got grease/dirt/air/pixies inside.

I love the magic mouse - it is very intuitive, customisable and the saves on batteries a it has a more prominent on off switch.

Awesome all round!

I too have had issues with apple mice - never liked them - I am using a logitech mx620 (I think) - which seems to have decent mac support.

Have you tried applying the firmware upgrade if you're using a wireless keyboard too? Supposed to sort out the battery issues.

I'm planning on buying the magic mouse for the mac pro then possibly the imac depending on how good it works out. Its not all forwards is better though. I very much prefer the older white keyboards than the newer silver ones! I now have two wireless ones and a wired one. I sold my wireless silver one on here. Must buy another one as a spare and for use with my modbook when I get it.

Your view on a MagicMouse will depend how you hold a mouse, I got mine with the new iMac and it is now back in the box. I found that my fingers got sore after using it for a while, probable cause I'm use to a Microsoft IntelliMouse Explore 4, which is rather chunky and I like to rest my palm on the back of the mouse.

I would say if you get one the MagicPref app is an absolute must download as It gives you some much more than Apple do, like middle click and rear tap for expose.

As for is it worth the money, well that's always going to be a personal thing, it's a clever bit of tech and looks good on the desk for sure, but I'm not sure about the form over function decisions the look to have been made in the design of the MagicMouse

If you have large hands you might find the Magic Mouse a little small - I do. And has been said the battery life is pretty poor. I'm off to look at some of the other mice mentioned in this thread.
