Has anyone used these before ? They seem to remove the annoyance of having to screw and unscrew circular filters between shots but I'm wondering about any effect they might have with vignetting.

not heard of/used them before, but would have thought they would not be "light tight", hth mike.

I use a magnetic CPL (MagFilter) on my Sony compact, although with a compact lacking a filter thread you've not much option.

I can't really see the benefit for a camera or lens that has a filter thread though, it's not as if when you've decided to shoot with a CPL you're repeatedly removing and adding it in a short space of time. It sounds like the solution to a problem that doesn't exist. Why are you adding and removing the CPL between shots so often that it's a problem?

You make some good points Alastair. The main reason I was giving this some thought was because I have one of those cheap but effective Haida 10 stop filters and I normally remove between shots when I'm recomposing and then reattaching it when I've metered and composed. This normally happens when its bloody freezing outside and eventually I lose feeling in my fingers which leads to me dropping the filter or faffing around like an idiot.

It will depend on your camera, but I have no problem composing, focussing and metering in liveview with a 13/14-stop piece of welding on the front of the lens. Worth a try rather than faffing with taking the filter on and off.
