"Predictions for 2010"

An iPhone-style app for your camera that links to a GPS reciever linked to a database of iconic photos...

So... your camera has built-in GPS - it has a Street-Map loaded onto it, iPhone style...the GPS tells you when you're in the right position to replicate that iconic photo from the database: it also tells you Date, Time, EXIF/File info so you can set the camera up exactly that same way etc. so you get the light near-as-dammit identical...

You've bought the best kit available, put the best glass you can afford onto it, now a downloaded app even tells you where to point the effin' camera...???

Where's the skill? Where's the vision...?

I'm with you on this Rob. :bang::bang: Where's it a leading.....:shrug:
Happy New Year. ;)

Kev.

Perhaps you should embrace this idea - just think of the chaos involved where people have got hold of the gps data from your photos and they want to try and replicate them

gahhhh...

Happy Noo Year...lol

I need alcohol...that's what it is...

Welcome to the Brave New World of instant gratification, Rob. I'm sure there will be a similar app along soon that allows one to become "famous" by simply selecting from a database of tried and trusted formulae.

On second thoughts we have that already, it's called X-Factor :shake:

this is just another example of us sleep walking into letting computers and technology take all decisions for us. Its time to decide if you want this in your life

progressing this 1 step further.. who controls the APP's available... Apple. Who wants to store all of your private documents - Google, Apple and MS

you dnt become a great photographer from copying others but by being original so for amateur photographers who do it as a hobby i wont blame them for using it

i love music but cant sing for the life of me but if they bring out an ipod app that makes me sing like an angel Hell yeah im going to download it lol

I think that's just it 'Make An Effort', how much effort are you willing to put into your photography?

If your downloading an iphone app such as the one in topic here, then the answer is not much at all.

No matter how much laziness there is, no matter the complacency or ignorance, there will always be folk who are willing to put every last drop of sweat, every last drop of blood and every last tear that they have into their art.

Technology and all it's advances won't ever remove the human element completely, there really is nothing to worry about.

:agree: Down with the man! F*** the corporations! :p ;)

Arkady, don't worry.

Once they have taken their 'iconic' yet copied photograph, they'll show it to people and the people will be like "yeah, so? I saw a photo exactly like that in ikea yesterday..." and those people will think, "Oh, that's a bit naff" and go out and take photos themselves.

It's all about copying the formula when you start off, and then doing what you want when you've nailed it.

You see it everywhere, especially in art.

Excellent idea! :bonk:
Just think of all the extra cost, and work for our Mountain Rescue Teams when Mr or Mrs decide "oooooooh that's a nice cliftop picture in the snow/fog/driving sleet/rain" and get themselves lost/stuck/injured or dead. And that's before AIr-Ambulances are brought into the equation.
About as well thought out as Labours Anti-Hunting Bill :bang::dummy:

Just think of the fun we could have.

Edit EXIF gps data in the lakeside shot a few feet, so it was take from the middle of the lake :)

Soon as I saw that article I skipped over it. I thought "I don't want to know this".

But that logic falls through almost as soon as they don't have the app anymore.

Being a good photographer means not only having the ability to see the image, but the ability to make the image.

Some noobs have the ability to see the image, but this tool helps them to make the image.
Or rather, make the image before they can see it.

When learning to drive a car, you don't just jump straight on the motorway. You follow by example. Sure, they can drive okay, but take away the tutorial and they're stranded up ***** creek without a paddle, just like a new photographer using this tool.

Don't worry about it! It's just to help them learn!

This is just insane. Fair enough it is one thing to know where to go to get a shot of a nice place but then when you are told how to set up the camera to replicate the shot is just madness for me.

I hope loads of people use it end up messing up their shots because they use settings that are wrong for that particular day. For example, a shot of a bridge under light that commands a shutter speed of 1/60th is the iconic image, then the "tog" tries the same shot in broad daylight. Will serve them right.

Look on the bright side - at least you know where to park the Ice Cream van ... :D

I dont think that would be on a DSLR, but i could see it being popular on top end P&S cameras.

my frined has canons latest offering...it does every mode you can think of....but you only have to press a button...

..it even has a no blink mode, so when your looking at the camera it wont take the picture untill everyones eyes are open

eventually these things will be able to be loaded with andrex no doubt and leave us all to think of higher things
