How do I do this in flickr?

People are saying they can't view my EXIF data on here, uploaded from flickr, yet I've got 'Hide your EXIF data' unchecked in my flickr account.

Confused.

Thanks

Your Exif data is visible in Flickr. Perhaps it is the new(ish) interface confusing people. If I click on Actions above the image on the photo page, there is an option View Exif Info (which works fine).

EDIT: And if I look at the full size image, I can right click and use Exif Viewer to look at the Exif data. The Exif data is not visible on the smaller-sized versions.

If you mean viewing EXIF details directly from the image when you display it on here, then you should be aware that only the Original Size image has the EXIF data, all the other resized versions that Flickr makes for itself have the EXIF stripped. So - if you're uploading things for display on here, I'd make sure that you upload a file that has a max of 1024px length longest side. That way, you can use the Original size, complete with EXIF details.

Also, as I've just found out, unless you have a pro account the original size image isn't available to you so you have no way of importing the EXIF into images shown on here.

ah, so, uploading smaller versions of the images on here means people can't view the EXIF on here?

So I need to upload the original at a certain size to flickr initally, then put it 'as is' on here, and people can view my exif?

Ah, well spotted Sarah.

Correct. (Just tested it.)

That's right, and since you have a Pro account it should work (it does for me).

no idea if correct, i read somewhere that if you use save for web it strips exif  mind you that could posssibly be the same as resizing

What makes you say that? I have just had a look at your flickr and, using Kuso Exif viewer, I can see the exif on your 800 X 600 size pics.

If posting from flickr using the BB code, your pic will be linked to your flickr. Anyone who wants to see the exif can click on the pic and look at the exif on flickr by clicking on "View exif", regardless of size posted.

Your second paragraph is true but so, I think, is what Sarah wrote.

Here is an "Original" image from my Flickr account.

Here is Flickr's "Large" version of the same image (which as it happens, is exactly the same size).

I am using Exif Viewer in Firefox. When I right click on the "Original" image and select "View Image Exif data" I see the Exif data. When I right click on the "Large" image and select "View Image Exif data" I don't see any Exif data.

If you don't have a "Pro" account at Flickr you don't have the "Original" size available to you, so you can't embed Exif data that can be seen here, at least not using Exif Viewer within Firefox.

I wonder, can you see the Exif data from the "Large" image above using Kuso exif viewer? (Reason I ask is that using Kuso exif viewer you can see the Exif data in Sarah's "Large" images over at Flickr, whereas using Exif Viewer I can't. (And I loaded an alternative, FxIF, and it said there was no Exif data available in the "Large" version over at Flickr.)

I can see the exif in both your images using Kuso in winXP.

Edit: Just tried Exif Viewer in Firefox on Win7 and I can see the first but not the second.

I can see the Exif using opanda in the original, but can't in the second - have to click it to open the flickr page and then click on the photo was taken with Canon Powershot bit. Weird huh.

 What Nick said.
Just by right clicking an image and using Firefox Exif viewer, I can't see the Exif in any "large sized" images either here or directly on Flickr (it only works on "original" sized ones)
However, as you say the Exif data is clearly still there in Flickr as you can access it via the "actions" drop down menu. I'd also be interested in whether you can see the Exif in Nick's Large image above.

For anyone interested - from Flickr's FAQs re: original sizes :

"Can I access my original images?

We resize your photos to more web-friendly dimensions. Each image has a 75x75 pixel thumbnail and 100-, 240-, 500-, 640- and 1024-pixel versions (that's the length of the longest side), as well as your original file.

When you view an individual photo page, click the "Action" button and then "View all sizes".

If you have a free account, no one (including you) can access your original file. If you upgrade to a pro account, your original files are available for download. You can use the global setting in your account to specify who can download original files: Only you; your friends and/or family; your contacts; any Flickr user; or anyone.

In case you have attached a Creative Commons license to your photo indicating you're OK with sharing it, this makes the original file available to anyone if you have a pro account."

I have installed Kuso exif viewer. It does not show up in the context menu in Firefox (I am using Firefox 3.6.13), and I can't find any configuration item in Firefox or Kuso exif viewer to make it do so. However, I dragged a copy of the "Large" version in the post above on to my desktop, and then fired up Kuso exif viewer and used its "open file" button to point to the "Large" version on my desktop. And Kuso exif viewer could indeed see the exif data.

EDIT: Then I used Faststone Image Viewer to open the "Large" version on my desktop. No exif data visible. Canon's ZoomBrowser can't see any exif data in it either.

Very strange.
