Yes
I found that the d300/MB-10 combo (with siggy 105 or the 17-55) would slip forward on the 486RC2 when doing product shots, does anyone have any experience of a similar combo on the 804RC2, would it be better suited to this sort of work?

I've not got the same setup as you but I mount my MF gear on an 804RC2 without any slipping. If you're feeling flush you could look at the 410Junior geared head.

Ive not got the same setup either, but when i got my 055xprob, i looked at both and wasnt happy how easy it was to force the ball head to move.

i got the 804rc2, and its rock solid

I changed the "control knobs" around as I felt they were in the wrong places
but never had any slippage once they're tightened

I have the 808RC4 identical to the 804RC4 except it takes upto 8kg instead of 5kg. I could practically sit on my hired 70-200 f2.8 lens and it wouldn't slip. Have you had it checked out, as it sounds like you got a duff head:)

Flash, would you rate this ball head for use on a monopod ?

Looking between this and the 488 (y)

Depends what lens you're putting on it. The 486 was fine with the D300/Grip and 70-200 VR on it, because it was mounted on the lens, but no use when mounted via the camera.

The 488 is pretty similar but much beefier, I've got one on an 055xPro (somewhere ) but I haven't tried it with the D300/Grip combo....

804rc2 easily held the MkIII and 70-200 F2.8 or 24-70 F2.8, decent head for a reasonable price :)
