Hi guys.

After reading this months Digital Photo I've decided to get a new tripod to upgrade from the cheap £30 Hama that I got last year.

The magazine says that they have found the Manfrotto 190 + 496RC2 for under £100. Just wandered if anyone knows where I could find this kit for this price?

I've also found the Manfrotto 804RC2 head, and wandered what the difference is between the two heads?

And if anyone knows the difference between then 190XB and the 190XBD legs?

Thanks

PS If you think this is the wrong choice then I'm open to opinions :)

There are loads of these combos on Ebay selling new for as little as 89.99

here is one clicky thingy Manfrotto had these on their site as a special at Christmas at 99.99 but they are no longer there, plenty of new ones on Ebay though

Just looking again at that and its also free delivery which is a bargain, I would probably go for that myself if I didnt already have an older 190CL Tripod and 496RC2 already

Thanks, but I'm after some advice, rather than just a price runner site.

Sorry for pointing you at a price runner site, but when you asked where you could find the kit for that price, I thought you wanted to know where you could find the kit for that price

Thanks AdeM, that looks a good deal. Is that the head to go for in your opinion?

Hi Sam, it works great for me I use it all the time, I suppose it really depends on what camera/lens combination your going to be using, I use it with my D80 and 18-135mm lens and its perfect, ive used it with a D300S again with no problems, I would probably go for a heavier duty model if I were using a larger/heavier body and lens though

Im very happy with it though

I have a 494rc2 which I use with a 40D and a Sigma 120-400mm and don't have any problems and the 496 is designed to take even more weight. They are excellent heads, well made and easy to operate.

I apologise, I read the reply and took it in a way to mean that you were saying I had not bothered to check before posting for help. Sorry for mistaking you.

Thank you guys for your advice and for finding that offer on ebay. I'm using a Canon 450d and i've got the standard kit lens, and the 55-250mm telephoto, so nothing massive or overly heavy. Only been going since March, hopefully in time i'll have some more gear

The 496 is a decent ballhead and the 804 is a pretty much panned panhead. Panheads are good for video, landscape or panoramas (tho a lot of ballheads now have pano settings/markers). The 496 is far more desirable no mater what you shoot.
