I have a Sigma 50mm f2.8 macro in Minolta SA fit that I use on my Panasonic G1 and I'm happy with the results but I think I'd like something a bit longer that'd be closer to my Sigma 150mm on my 5D. Something from 80-100mm might suit but true macro isn't really that important as it'll just be used for pseudo macro close up shots.

I like Minolta Rokkors but there doesn't seem to be anything longer than 50mm so I just wondered if anyone could recommend anything. I'm just looking to spend a relatively small amount so something like the Nikon fit manual macro lenses costing £900+ I spotted at Ffordes are out.

Maybe something in Rokkor, OM or FD fit that I can use on my G1 via a cheap adapter?
 
Just had a thought...

I have a very nice Rokkor 85mm f2 and I wonder if I could use an extention tube with it.

I've never used extention tubes, has anyone used these with a CSC?
 
I take it that you mean SR mount?
There should be Minolta 100/4 Macros around.
Also Tamron 90/2.5s
 
Yes, meant SR.

Currently looking at extention tubes but will also look for those two lenses.
 
there was also an older, heavier & allegedly not quite as good f3.5 version.
Mifsuds currently have a bellows f4 version for £119
 
Can't see a Vivitar 90mm available but there are Rokkor 100mm f3.5's on ebay but sadly not in the UK.

I may keep looking and see if one turns up but the idea of using my 85mm f2 + tubes might be another way to do. I don't know what using tubes will do to aperture/shutter speed as I've never used them.
 
Might have just the thing - a Minolta SR mount 2x Macro teleconverter. Turns your 50mm into a 100mm macro lens. I used to use Minolta 45mm f2 on it and it gave max reproduction of slightly closer than 1:1 and could still focus to infinity. Very sharp too, on m4/3 the 45mm was the sharpest thing I'd ever used and remained very good on the TC. If you want me to start a for sale thread for it I will. :thumbs:
 
How about the smc takumar 100mm macro? Or even the preset version? Alternatively the Yashica ML 100mm macro appears occasionally. Beware of the Mr Tamron SP 90/2.5, it produces a purple spot in the centre of the frame on digital, when stopped down (sometimes). Believe this is to do with the flat rear element.

Also, how about the plastic fantastic Cosina 100mm macro? I guess the older fd and Om variants must be a bit cheaper than the af models.

I've had a browse on ebay but you guys keep adding to the list of possibilities so I'll have to have another look :D

I'd forgotten about the Rokkor 100mm f4 but there don't seem to be any.

I hadn't thought about a TC and there's tubes to think about too and as they're quite cheap I could always buy both and try my 50 f1.4 and 2.8 macro and 85mm f2 on both and sort it all out with some testing.

I may try TC and tubes but keep an eye out for a longish macro lens.

Hmmmm.

There's a lot to think about :D
