say I have my site and I buy location-weddings.co.uk and map it to my site, thats real shiny for seo right?

I don't know much about mapped domains but am heading off on a google hunt now.

Having several domain names point to the same domain usually just dilutes the traffic you already get. The best option would be to create a duplicate site more targeted to that subject (and ultimately visitors) you are trying to attract with that domain.

How practical that is for you I don't know but even if it were a direct copy of your current site and you change the text/images to suit that subject matter you'll do far better in SEO.

But above all... update your site regularly, weekly if possible. That's the single biggest thing you can do to help in the search engines :)

my reasoning was that a specific google search for 'area weddings' is likely to be fairly commonly done by my target market (people getting married) and my website is at the moment a lovely online portfolio but generates next to no traffic of its own

I've considered another site specific to weddings in Bude but I'm kinda happy with mine and I don't wanna have to have multiple business cards/identities as at the moment I only really have one cost and I think all my work links in nicely with my commercial work complimenting my wedding work ect

I know someone who runs a second site and he uses it to sell relatively cheap event and portrait work without devalueing his high end commercial and fashion work

Come to think of it I could do similar....
