Mark on sensor - doesn't look like dust?

Hi,

I've got some random marks I sometimes see in images, especially when on "grey" that can be quite hard to clone out. It doesn't look like dust marks and they are in two different places...only thing I can think of is that they're hairs or they're actually burnt on to the sensor. Whats peoples views and experiences before I go sending the camera off to Sony...

it looks like a smear to me. if it was a hair on the sensor then you would see it as a sharp.

have you tried to clean it with a sensor pen?

i ask because i've never used a sensor pen on my sensor, but i have on a lens (a compact lens where a normal lens pen won't fit) and it leaves marks like that on occasion.

before sending it off to sony, i'd see if a local camera shop will do a wet clean for you.

Look a bit like hairs to me. Try a blower or some sensor swabs if your camera has an option to move the mirror for cleaning.

I'll give it a fresh clean tonight and see if I notice anything tomorrow - trouble is it only seems to show up on greys, so its got to be quite specific.

Minds you, suppose I should just get some quite paper and use a high aperture and see how I go

Shoot the ceiling at f16 or smaller and it'll sharpen up if it's a hair. sensor dirt gets sharper at small apertures because it's on the low pass filter which lies in front of sensor.

I saw somthing similar on my mates shots last weekend while doing an event, I just automatically cleaned the front element, used the blower on the rear and it made no difference. Set it to cleaning mode and used the blower on the sensor and it got shut of what ever was there.

Good old dirt... unless its really bad, leave it alone. Fix any real problems in photoshop.

Cleaning is only a temporary fix (it will be back) and the dirt moves around anyhow.
