May have been asked before but, Nikon 35mm or 50mm 1.8 AFS

As the title says, which would serve me better, I take a lot of pictures of my children and my sister has asked me to also take a few pictures at her wedding next year.

I had a 50mm on my Nikon D50 and also on my Canon 30D but what will the 35mm bring me?

So which is better and why or is there another make around the same price that may be better.

Lenses I have already are kit lens 18-55 and also a 55-200 Sigma.

id be tempted to buy a flash and use the 18 - 55
 
I have the 35mm and had the 50mm d but when I bought the Tamron 17 - 50, I sold the 50mm and seem to use the Tamron all the time.
 
the biggest difference is not which is a 'better' lens, but the difference in angle of view. that would be what i would base my decision on.

Sorry but this is completely untrue.

The 50 well give marginally better I.Q but is a bit long to use on a crop camera indoors, excellent for outdoor portraits though.
 
Ok, so really basic difference is space to get the picture?

When you say difference in angle, how do you mean, sorry if I sound a bit thick.

Going to be mainly taking pictures of the kids both indoors and outdoors so guessing the 35mm is the way forward.

Set your 18-55 at 35mm, look at the view, then set your lens at 50mm, look at the view, it's that simple.
 
35 is the best bang for your buck out there.

thats what i mean its better in tighter spots as the 50 is to narrow in field of view
so the 35mm is better

having owned both the 50 never gave me better iq so there !:banana:
