Yes
I've been advised by a few people now that the replica grips for the D700 are just as good as the original.

Just thought I'd ask you lot if this was the case, and if so, any recommendations on one to get?

I bought one for my D700, it has more features than the Nikon grip including remote control and a car charger. I tried it on the camera and it worked just as well as my MB-D10 on my D300. A day after fitting it I was offered another Nikon grip cheap so I took it off. REMOVED

it's fine. Get the one from seller 'linkdelight'. Takes abuse. A lot of it. Under £45 posted. Comes with BL-3 so with EN-EL4a or AA batteries you get 8fps. Niiiiice.

I bought one for the D300 (same grip as D700) and have had no problems with it the few times I've used it. :)

I only use it when I know I'm doing a lot shots in portrait orientation, or want 8 frames per second, which is not that often. I don't find it that comfortable for general use, but for prolonged portrait orientation shooting, it was better than twisting the wrist in an awkward angle. ;)

There will be some people who will say why pay for a copy to put on an expensive camera, but I'd rather pay a third of the price for something I'll use occasionally.

I have the Link Delight one from Ebay. Never had an issue with the grip. The battery that came with it was faulty though.

I use my camera all the time with the grip and its perfect.

Not sure about the cheap copies but the MBD10 is a lovely piece of kit and I love mine. I'm glad I paid the extra for weather proofing and the feel of it alone. 8fps is cool too, not sure you get that with the copies either.

RoFlCoPtEr!
Hell no, bought one for £55.00 and it doesn't work with the EL4 batterys, the switch thingy-ma-bob to pull the cartridge for batterys out are very loose, feels aweful and the shutter release is horrble and only tends to work when it wants to!!
By the way, I bought a second one because I thought the first one was faulty. But no, their all the same.
When I opened the first one up to see why it wouldn't work with EL4 batterys, I noticed that several screws where missing, soldering was shoddy work, wires where loose.. It was like they let a rat loose in there or something.
Their not all the same though, bought one for my D90 years ago and worked beautifully with no problems or hassle.
The only reason I use the grip now is for the 8 FPS, other than that Its dead weight so I just take it off.

Do yourself a favour and buy a 2nd hand/new Nikon one.

Absolutely priceless!! You're the gift that keeps on giving!! :p

Anyway, I can't comment on the Nikon ones but I've had a few original Canon and 3rd party ones and they all work 100%, never had a problem with any of them, however if I bought another, I'd buy an original Canon one.....build quality is way better, and it just feels better. I'd think the Nikon vs 3rd party ones would be the same!
