Anyone got any comments on the generic grips at about £45 to £50 as opposed to the Nikon at £150 ish. I know I should really buy the Nikon but they are both made in China, is this a case of you get what you pay for. Advice appreaciated.
 
I paid £130 for Nikon one in Jessops, glad I didn't go for the cheap one.

Fits really well and the shutter button is great.

I think the real one is about £80 2nd hand, well worth the extra £30.
 
I got mine (official Nikon) through Jesspos, I think Microglobe (am I allowed to do that) were doing them for about £25-30 less. But as I need to visit the shop rather than go online, Jessops it was.

Well worth it as well, got it for holiday, with an extra battery, no charging needed for the whole week, in fact, it was still showing full charge by the end.

I am a big fan of Meike grips having a pair of them for my D300 and D700 BUT they are NOT as good as the genuine ones. The genuine ones are made from magnesium alloy just like the actual bodies. The meike ones do come with the full selection of battery adapters which the genuine ones don't do! BUT it cost around £100 for the 2 rather than around £500 !!!
 
The genuine D80/D90 grip isn't magnesium alloy though that might be the difference.

Sorry, I was talking about the D300/700 versions not the MDB80. I would quite happily get the Meike version anyway but certainly for the lower models.
 
I noticed that LCE southampton civic centre branch had a genuine one for £80 secondhand, and they do mailorder
 
£99.99 at Digital Depot.

Got a good deal on mine when bought with D90 body.

I wasn't sure if I'd get on with a battery-grip so didn't want to spend much. I got a cheapo copy for £38 off eBay (Item number: 140413777122) It came with TWO batteries and a remote! Works fine so far.

Just two minor criticisms.. the battery door is slightly loose when closed (easily fixed with a bit of foam tape), and sometimes I feel a tiny bit of play between grip and body, as if it could be tightened further. I guess I could fix that if it bugged me enough, but it doesn't. I'm happy with it and glad I didn't spend more :cool:
 
Great Western Cameras in Swindon have genuine MB-D80 grips on ebay for £109.99 + £7.99 P&P. Currently got 5 available.

You don't get a battery with the Nikon one. I was amazed!

There's more ££'s to Nikon!
