Memory card lifespan

I've recently been getting a few corrupt files on both my CF and SD cards.

The SD cards are Sandisk Ultra IIs and the CF are Transcend. Both 8GB.

The SD cards are about a year old and the CF only about 6 months but I'm seeing about 1 in 100 files corrupted. Is there any way to prolong the life of cards? Would Sandisk Extreme IIIs last longer if I replace all my cards?

Thanks,

Matt

Do you delete files and continue to use it, or download and reformat, I've been using an Ultra II for three years without problems. I always format in the camera each time after I've downloaded and never delete in camera.

I always reformat too. I do delete in camera too though, for individual shots that I know have gone terribly wrong. Could that be the problem?

Your usage should be fine - and the time you have had them is well within the lifespan of a card. From memory Transcend cards have a lifetime warranty and sandisk differe between 5 years and lifetime.

I personally would consider reporting this to the respective manufacturers as a fault as both will be well within warranty.

Did you buy them both from the same place? Only other though is there are a lot of 'fake' flash memory cards being sold on ebay and in less reputable stores.

I bought them from different Amazon marketplace sellers, apart from one which I bought from Jessops. They all seemed repectable dealers. The SD cards have had a huge amount of use in the year so they may have just worn out quicker than normal. The CF cards haven't had so much use though and are much newer.

I'll have a look and see if I can find the warranty for them.

Thanks for the response.

When I first started digital photography I had a similar issue which was down to me turning the power off to the camera while it was still writing the data to the card. Sounds daft but got me a couple of times before I discovered what I was doing!

Are you seeing them corrupted in camera before you download them to the computer, or after you have downloaded them?

If it is afterwards, have you tried downloading the photos on to another computer and checked the same files are corrupted?
