Memory card selection!!

Ive been looking through memory cards so i searched the forum but nothing turned up. I have a Nikon D3100 and I am looking to get a 32Gb class 10 memory card, Is there any particular brand I should keep away from or anything like that ??

Are Kingston a decent brand of memory card ?? I think the reader will be fine for the card, but i dont know. Any help would be appreciated.

Never used a kngston card, most folk use sandisk
the reader looks a good one though.
 
Why a 32gb?
If it goes wrong you'll lose all your photo's. Just buy a few 4gb's.
 
Kingston actually make their own memory so it isn't crappy rebranded stuff, I've used their stuff for years and years and never had a problem.

But yes, 32gb is a little large, I'd get a couple of smaller ones. The danger being that you just leave the images on the card without downloading them and then you lose it, your photos going with it. Smaller cards make you empty the card more often.
 
I was just looking at taking pictures in Raw instead of JPG so i thought 32gb would be best. I will look at 16gb's and see what happens i think then
 
Kingston is the only brand that wouldn't work in my 1d MkIII
 
Ordered 2 16gb 30Mb/s Sandisk extreme's class 10 from Amazon for £33 each.

Should sort me out for a long time. Also still have my 8Gb to use aswell

I was also looking to get a larger card as my 2gb will only hold about 100 pics in raw mode and less than 100 in raw+L was intending on getting a 32 but might take advice and get 2x 16's!!
 
I have one 4gig at the moment, a sandisk. Going to buy another soon
 
I know it depends a lot on the type of photography people do but I have to say, as a keen amateur I've never felt the need for more than an 8gb card. On my 12ish MP sensor that equates to around 400 images. I carry a couple of 8gb cards but in truth have never even got close to filling one. Even when doing star stacking I was only occupying half the card.

I now shoot RAW and carry 2 - 8GB cards

dont do video [if that makes a difference]

i use Kingston - no probs ....
 
Unless you are shooting some kind of sport or wildlife maybe there really is no need to go above 8GB as already stated if you go out for a days shoot at say a once a year ocassion with a 16GB card get home only to find that the CF card is corrupt!! day wasted!!
I use two 8GB and carry extra 4GB cards just in case.

My local camera shop (Harrisons in Sheffield) always recommend Sandisc. I just got an 8gb with my new EOS600 and that's great Don't think that I'd ever go bigger than that on one card.
 
Size of card also depends how long your going to keep them and still want to use them.

I got 2 x 1GB cards because when I started I listened to the better safe than sorry camp, they are now useless in a modern megapixel camera.

Think to the future and buy big. If your only shooting 8GB worth of shots at a time and the card totally fails, you'll lose 8GB of shoots if it's an 8GB card or a monster 128GB card, you'll still lose the same number of shoots.

Now if you really do want to be safe, I've some 512MB, 1Gb, 2GB and 4GB cards for sale :)

I have 2 8mb cards and 1 4mb one (sandisk) - 8mb will do around 400 images on a D300 and I find that fine, cannot think of an occasion I have needed to swap cards in the same day. I would go for a couple of 8mb ones.

I assume you mean gb not mb? :)
 
Been using a Transcend 8Gb in my D3100 since Feb with no problems
