Memory Card - Transfer Problem

I've just transferred my images from a memory card to my Laptop with ViewNX 2. The memory card was full with 1276 images, automatically removing the images from the memory card.

Now my problem.

I opened the windows folder after the transfer and although the properties of the folder shows 1276, there's only 999 images. I'm 276 short.

The images are numbered DSC_999 Is there something I can do to retrieve the missing 276?

Scrub that.

I've just seen that the images are numbered in a way to confuse me.

I arranged the images by date and that sorted it, they're all there.
